The L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Maghreb Talents for Women in Science programme is committed to supporting the involvement of young women in scientific research. This programme identifies and rewards brilliant young women researchers in life and environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer and information sciences, engineering sciences and technology. To date, more than 60 grants have been awarded to young doctoral and post-doctoral students from the Maghreb - for their academic excellence, the originality of their scientific projects and their desire to pass on their passion to younger people.

The Maghreb L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents for Women in Science programme aims to promote and support the involvement of young women in scientific research. The programme identifies and rewards talented young women researchers in life and environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer and information sciences, engineering sciences and technology.
Since its inception, over 60 prizes have been awarded to young female researchers for the quality of their research work.

For this 18th edition, 5 endowments will be awarded to encourage young female researchers currently in doctoral or post-doctoral studies to pursue a brilliant scientific career.

  • The winning doctoral candidates will each receive an endowment of €10,000. Doctoral candidates must be enrolled in a doctoral school and a research laboratory in one of the following countries: Morocco Algeria Tunisia or Libya and have begun their doctorate by December 2022 at the latest (i.e. at least be enrolled in the 2nd year of their thesis) and not yet have defended their thesis by the date the call for applications opens, in May 2024.
  • The winning post-docs will each receive an endowment of €10,000. They must be working in a laboratory or research institute in the same countries mentioned above, have defended their thesis after January 2019 and have started their post-doctorate before the opening date of the call for applications in May 2024.

The L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents for Women in Science programme will be awarded by the L'Oréal Foundation as part of a partnership with UNESCO.

Main eligibility criteria
  • Be enrolled in at least the second year of a doctorate (female doctoral candidates),
    be in post-doctoral studies and have defended their thesis before the call for applications (post-doctoral candidates),
  • Carry out their research in one of the following countries: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia or Libya, in the fields of life, environmental and earth sciences, mathematics, computer and information sciences, etc.
  • Not have a permanent position before receiving the Prize.
