Turkey - National program

For Women in Science is a longstanding program, going on for 22 years globally and 18 years locally in Turkey, supporting women’s contribution to science and helping create role models by calling attention on gender equality in science. In Turkey, the program is conducted by L'Oréal Turkey in collaboration with Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, and each year four women scientists selected by UNESCO’s independent jury is granted TL 120.000 for their research projects. Women scientists, qualifying for fellowships offered by L'Oréal Turkey, are selected by UNESCO’s independent jury based on certain criteria such as contribution to science, feasibility, sustainability, and scientific innovation. Each year, For Women in Science program supports over 250 talented young women scientists. Eminent women researchers from five continents pursue their scientific career thanks to the support offered by the program and make discoveries that help change the world. The number of women scientists getting this support has reached 3400 globally. In Turkey, For Women in Science program offered support for 108 young women scientists in the past 18 years. Working towards the aim of promoting gender equality in science, L'Oréal steadily advances to honor its vision. L'Oréal is striving for a future where young girls are encouraged to do scientific researches, women are empowered, and scientific researches are valued based on their potentials rather than the gender. Ranking 5th among the top supporters of the program in the world, L'Oréal Turkey has been empowering talented young Turkish women scientists for 18 years now and has been helping our country acquire new “International Rising Talents” for four years in a row.
